In my debut novel, Golden Aphrodite, our planet is out of balance and the goddess who once inspired suffering humans with divinely sensual love is long gone.

The mythological fantasy has four characters, immortal and mortal, whose story arcs intertwine in both past and present.

Mountain Lion, an expression of the spirit of the natural world, feels women's diminished sensuality is a danger to Earth. What can he do?

Deciding to explore California in human form, Mountain Lion falls in love with a young woman, Xoe. She lacks confidence that she can help animals facing extinction. Could an erotic dream—replicated in other women—bring Xoe and other women back into the spiritual power of their sensuality? If women share this experience with those they love, can both women and men now restore balance between the sexes—and to Earth?

But, here’s the catch: Mountain Lion doesn’t know how to give dreams to humans.

Hermes does. The god, however, has given up on humanity. Back in Olympian days, Hermes and Aphrodite gave birth to a child. Their beloved Maphi would model how each one of us is half male, half female. The Olympian world derided their dream, and Maphi could not live up to their expectations.

Artemis, mostly known to us as the Greek goddess of the hunt, found herself inhabiting the role of Great Earth Mother Artemis in Anatolia, which meant Land of the Mothers in ancient times. When she lost her revered position in people's hearts, Artemis vowed to embody herself. She would no longer hunt but protect endangered wild animals. Enduring in the land now called Turkey, Artemis has become dangerously enraged at her impotence as animals disappear from Earth.

Una, a woman who loves dreams, is visiting Turkey with her husband on a wedding anniversary trip. While he flirts with a young woman, Una worries about her lack of sensuality and finds herself grieving the death of her child. She identifies with Artemis, the willful huntress, but also senses the compassionate spirit of the Great Earth Mother Artemis.
